Built as a collaboration with Pioneer Millworks, a leading reclaimed and sustainable wood products company, the read:grain bench is not only a piece of art but a functional piece of furniture that is meant to be used every day.
The bench was designed with the theme “read:grain” in mind. Using this theme, the bench was designed to highlight the incredible grain of the reclaimed Oak as well as offer a place to sit and read.
The reclaimed “Black and Tan” Oak used in the design was salvaged from Kentucky and was originally used as horse fencing. The wood was planed and sanded on one side to reveal the beautiful knots and grain. While the black paint was left intact on the other side and can be seen on the under side of the adjustable back rest, headrest and interior spaces.
The base of the bench was designed to be a bookcase so you are never far from a good book. Holes were placed on the bottom of the base so the six hairpin-style bookends can be easily adjusted for your ever-changing or growing literary collection.
The bench has a sturdy steel frame and comfortable cushions that have been upholstered with a wool Swiss Army blanket.
The head rest can be stored under the back rest when not in use or when the bench seat is laid flat.
This is a one-of-a-kind bench and will be the centerpiece of any room!
